Pinay fined over P10M for illegally employing 17 women in UAE

Wednesday, 30 March 2011 02:02

A Filipino woman was fined Dh850,000 (P10.026 million) for illegally employing 17 women for her party planning agency in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to a report of the Arab news site Gulf News, the woman was imposed a fine of Dh50,000 for each of the 17 workers she employed illegally.

Gulf News said the Residency and Foreigners Affairs of UAE penalized the Filipino woman for illegally employing the workers as hostesses at wedding parties.

The 17 women were said to be among the 161 Filipinas and one Indonesian who were arrested in December last year for working without proper papers.

The women were arrested after an elite wedding reception at the Dubai World Trade Centre in December.

The 162 women came from five different companies, including the one owned by the Filipina who received a fine of more than P10 million.

The women who were arrested in December for working illegally are now in jail, Gulf News reported. – VVP, GMA News
