MECO Seeks Filipino Scholars to Study in Taiwan

The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) is seeking for college students  to study in Taiwan.

MECO announced the opening of the International Honors Program (IHP), which seeks to encourage sophomore students to avail of the scholarship grants for Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce offered by Kainan University.

Majors offered are International Business, and Shipping and Logistic.

Applicants must be fluent in English, must have excellent academic abilities and must possess personal traits required of an international exchange student.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents to the MECO: letter of application, bio-data, two letters of recommendation from the students’ affairs office or from a teacher at the university, official transcript of record authenticated by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), high school diploma and transcript of record authenticated by the DFA, photocopy of passport, two passport size pictures with white background and three 2×2 colored photo.

The scholars must also secure an affidavit of support or an official financial certificate from MECO. Deadline of submission of applications is on April 15.

Once accepted, the scholars will fly to Taiwan to undergo orientation seminar. MECO will handle the airfare and visa processing expenses.

Under the four-year program, the students must maintain satisfactory academic performance at any time and are also required to enrol in Mandarin Chinese classes for the whole course.

An amount equivalent to P10,000 is required from each student as health insurance.

The students will be allowed to work within the university to help finance their food and other expenses after the first year. But before then, the students or their sponsors will have to do so out of their own pockets.

A total of 29 Filipinos have finished the IHP in June last year, some of them are already employed in Taiwan.
