Pinoy food featured in Madrid bazaar for Queen's charities

Dried mangoes, mango rind, and other Philippine sweets were featured in the recently-concluded "Kermes 2012" bazaar in Madrid for Spanish charity projects.
The bazaar, whose proceeds were donated to the Queen Sofia Foundation and other Spanish charities for women and children in need, was held at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos on April 14. In a news release, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said: “Philippine food items such as dried mangoes, mango rind, polvoron, pastillas de leche, and turrones de casuy were among the most popular items sold at the Philippine booth."

Agents 'trick' nurses into signing bonds

Filipino nurses are being lured to New Zealand only to end up bonded in caregiving roles at rest homes, the national nurses' organisation says.
More than a quarter of the 46,000 nurses represented by the New Zealand Nurses Organisation were trained overseas, with Filipinos the largest ethnic group.
But a number had arrived under false pretences, researcher Dr Leonie Walker said.

OFW is London Olympics torchbearer

An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in the United Kingdom will be carrying the torch for the London 2012 Olympic Games in July.
Occupational therapist Reymund Enteria will be representing over nine million OFWs by running on July 22nd, the last Sunday preceding the Olympics’ opening ceremony at the Barking and Dagenham Borough of London.
In a letter to GMA News Online, Enteria wrote of waiting five months to hear the news and expressed surprise at being chosen, despite not being an athlete.
