A 27-year-old Filipino woman has pressed charges against a Syrian cook in Dubai and accused him of assaulting her in the United Arab Emirates as she applied for a job.

The 34-year-old cook “has been accused of removing his trousers, kissing and groping a woman jobseeker,” who Gulf News reported took the woman to his flat in the late evening “to discuss the terms of her job contract.”

According to local news website Emirates 24-7, the woman reported she first met the man at a restaurant in the Hallmark Hotel.

“She told him that she was looking for a job and he promised to help her,” it said.

In her statement during the prosecution questioning, Gulf News quoted the woman as saying: “I asked him to find me a job. He called me on a Saturday and asked to meet him in Al Rigga. When I met him, he asked me to go with him to his house to discuss my offer letter. I entered into his flat and sat on the side of the bed… he locked the door from inside when he entered.”

“To my surprise, he took off his trousers and remained half naked in his boxer. Then he came close to me and kissed me. He also groped my backside and tried to make sleep on the bed. I warned him that I would scream if he didn’t move away… thereafter he opened the door and threw me out,” she continued.
